The sea is a natural habitat, source of food, commodity reservoir, energy resource, health resort and transport route. There are myriad – often conflicting – different interests and policies enmeshed within the complex subject that is “the sea”. The application of technology is gaining more and more importance in the use and protection of the sea. The maritime economy – in all its breadth and diversity – is a market with a great future and with big potential for growth and employment in the medium and long term.
