BlueHealthTech - Coalition for innovative health technologies from the sea

BlueHealthTech is the first initiative to systematically combine marine research with healthcare. The aim is to translate methods and findings from marine research into medical technology innovations through interdisciplinary research projects. Marine organisms are used to develop medical and therapeutic products. A total of €15 million is available for this purpose.

BlueHealthTech is funded by the WIR! programme of the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. ‘WIR! – Change through Innovation in the Region’ is intended to provide the impetus for new regional alliances and bring about sustainable, innovation-based structural change in structurally weak regions of Germany. The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Transport, Labour, Technology and Tourism of the State of Schleswig-Holstein supports BlueHealthTech innovation management.

The innovative alliance is centrally supported by four organisations: GEOMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel, Kiel University, Stryker Trauma GmbH, and University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein.

DSN helped establish the network and assisted with the application process. Since 2022, DSN has been active in the areas of alliance development, innovation management, and public relations.
