SARA - Global Sustainable Development Goals: adapt, regionalise, apply

Implementing the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals in the municipalities of the German-Danish border region - that was the task of the cross-border project SARA. With the project, the project partners wanted to improve the basis for a decent life in their region while preserving the natural foundations of life in the long term. The goal is the same in both countries, but there are very different basic conditions and resources available on the ground.
After taking stock, the project partners developed indicators and methods to measure sustainability in the communities during the project period. They relied on a mutual exchange of knowledge, among other things in workshops in which companies were also involved. After two years of project work, a strategic partnership is in place that will ensure long-term implementation on the ground with joint formats.
SARA was funded by Interreg Deutschlad-Danmark. Six partner organisations were involved in the project: Region Syddanmark, UdviklingsRåd Sønderjylland, TREFOR, Wirtschaftsförderungsgesellschaft des Kreises Rendsburg-Eckernförde GmbH & Co. KG, Schleswig-Flensburg County and KielRegion GmbH. Within two years, they have received funding of about 600,000 euros for a total budget of about one million euros. DSN had supported the application and was in charge of project and financial management as well as project communication.
