SOOP – Shaping an Ocean Of Possibilities

Developments such as overfishing, warming or pollution threaten the ocean ecosystem. At the same time, there is too little data on the oceans; there is a considerable need to record important ocean and climate variables in order to close current knowledge gaps and tap future potentials for better environmental and climate protection. This also includes entrepreneurial and technological innovation potentials.

SOOP aims to promote knowledge exchange between science, industry and society in order to address major societal challenges with new innovative, interdisciplinary and integrative approaches. The aim is to create a platform with partners from industry and civil society for the development of standards and reliable, cost-effective ocean data collection solutions that open up new business opportunities.

DSN was commissioned by GEOMAR to assist with the application. The application was developed with GEOMAR, the Alfred Wegener Institute and Hereon and submitted to the Helmholtz funding line "Innovation platforms as sustainable and structure-building measures to strengthen transfer and innovation".
