Rail transport is a key component for sustainable, climate-friendly mobility and plays a decisive role for a mobility transition with regard to climate change. A key component here is the reactivation of disused railway lines, especially in rural areas. These railway lines must be operated economically and at the same time safely and efficiently. The aim of the REAKT initiative is to reactivate the disused Malente-Lütjenburg railway line and to enable sustainable local rail passenger transport. Until then, the line will serve as a real-life laboratory for university and entrepreneurial research projects to test innovative rail technologies in rural areas. In addition to projects on AI and autonomous driving, projects on control and safety technology and the development of innovative vehicle concepts will also be carried out.
