REAKT - individualised transport by rail, new mobility in rural areas

REAKT is a transdisciplinary initiative from Schleswig-Holstein. The aim of those involved: to develop technological and social solutions to make rail transport in rural areas more individualised, more attractive, safer and more economical.

The disused Malente-Lütjenburg railway line serves the REAKT partners as a test environment for innovative applications in railway technology. Under the leadership of Kiel University, ideas for the future of rural rail transport are being tested here together with companies and other research institutions.

As an innovation community, REAKT will receive up to five million euros from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research until 2028. This funding commitment emphasises the high innovation potential and scientific basis of the initiative.

DSN coordinated the application process and prepared editorial contributions. DSN has been supporting the operational management of the innovation community since 1 January 2025.
