Analysis of the staff and qualification needs in the sector of renewable energies in Hamburg and the metropolitan region Hamburg

Poster vom Gutachten zu erneuerbare Energien Hamburg

In recent years, renewable energy industries have grown enormously. Since 2004 the number of employees has more than doubled. Particularly in the areas of wind power and solar energy there are acute personnel requirements. Staff requirement can be divided into three categories: ‘planning, design, financing‘, ‘sales, retail, logistics’ and ‘service, maintenance and repair‘. The reason for the shortage of skilled workers are too little sector-specific training and the rapid growth in these industries. Therefore, the majority of the company relies on skill development in the workplace.

That is why the Cluster Hamburg Renewable Energy launched the study ‘Analysis of personnel and training needs of the industry Renewable Energy in Hamburg and the Hamburg Metropolitan Region’. DSN and the Institute of Innovation and Technology (iit), Berlin were together charged with the study.

Primary objective was to determine the qualifications and staffing needs of the industry and to compare them with the current offers. Based on this, the identification of gaps and the development of innovative proposals for action was possible.

The modules of the study are as follows:

  • Survey of companies in the renewable energy sector
  • Survey of personnel and training needs of companies
  • Determine which qualification facilities and qualification possibilities are to be offered
  • Recommendations and strategies
