At the very beginning, there was the vision to develop the border region to an attractive growth area.

For this, the strengths and weaknesses of the border region southern Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein should be identified in an investigation. Potential strengths were considered under the aspects of the economic potential, future market opportunities, strategic branding and expertise in the border region and related areas. The focus was on the three action fields

•     Health and Welfare
•     Energy
•     Experience Economy

The short study should serve as a starting point for a dynamic development of knowledge networks and new areas of cooperation. The study went into the political coordination of the Region South Denmark after its completion in April 2009.

The potentials were identified based on existing strategies and analyses, supplemented and deepened through interviews with key people on both sides of the border. DSN led on behalf of the Danish consulting firm Capacent the interviews with the German actors and analysed information on strengths in Schleswig-Holstein in the fields of action.
